SB 1128 passed through its committee assignments with a favorable recommendation but the full Senate has not voted on the bill at this time. The passage of SB 1128 would reduce emotional support animal (ESA) fraud by:

Requiring reasonable accommodation requests for an ESA to be completed by a licensed provider who has a medical or therapeutic relationship with the patient,

Codifying a property owner’s right to verify the authenticity of the documentation provided, and
-
Establishing a second degree misdemeanor penalty for misrepresenting a pet as an emotional support animal (60 days in jail, a $500 fine, or both).
